I like to search for playlists by titles that are highly descriptive and specific to a moment/feeling/experience because I'll often find new music or reminders of old and forgotten songs that scratch an itch in a new way I wouldn't have thought of. There's still a connecting thematic thread but I think what makes it so satisfying are the driving experiences, perspectives & biases behind the curation of that playlist. maybe it is a classic song for that feeling that you're glad to see, or maybe it's a song that curator was listening to by chance as they were experiencing that thing, or maybe it's an artist that was shown to them by someone they associate with that feeling. Maybe when I hear it, it's exactly what I needed but didn't know I was looking for... would it have been possible to find otherwise? I wonder if the satisfaction is heavily driven by the feeling of delight, by "happening upon something" without much effort, but it makes me wonder what a world will look & feel like when we can always get exactly what we ask for. I hope we keep a little space for the serendipity of discovery from one another, even if it means keeping some of the "frictions" were working so hard to limit today.
